Fred Thompson and the GOP Presidential Race

Fred Thompson is as conservative as they get. He opposes gay rights, a woman's right to choose, gun control and just about anything else that liberals support. He supports the death penalty and voted to limit appeals. AND, he thinks Bush is doing a good job in Iraq.

There is a concerted movement among conservative Republicans to get him into the 2008 race. Does this guy scare you as much as he does me?

He has all the skills and face recognition to be a viable candidate right out of the gate. And with his Hollywood connections, he could raise a ton of money in a hurry. Not to mention that he was a Watergate prosecutor, so he has the verbal skills to match wits with any of the leading Democrats, something few, if any, of the other GOP front runners could do.

Real Clear Politics
has a brief article about him this morning. The only bright side to this new push to get him into the race is that people who know him (as related in the Sunday morning news shows) don't think he has the stomach to do a full-on presidential campaign. Let's hope (as progressives) that they are correct.
